Unlike the previous lessons on vowels, consonants, and batchim, today’s topic is super practical!
Through a short skit, you’ll learn how to use Korean greetings in real-life situations.
And starting today, each lesson is now 15 minutes instead of 30!

1. Today’s Skit
Scene: Morning at school. Jimin arrives, meets a friend, and greets the teacher.
Jimin: 안녕, 수진! (Annyeong, Sujin!)
Sujin: 안녕, 지민! 잘 잤어? (Annyeong, Jimin! Jal jasseo?)
(The teacher walks by.)
Jimin: 선생님, 안녕하세요! (Seonsaengnim, annyeonghaseyo!)
Teacher: 지민, 안녕하세요. 좋은 아침이에요. (Jimin, annyeonghaseyo. Joeun achim-ieyo.)
Vocabulary
안녕 (annyeong) — Hi / Hello (casual)
수진 (Sujin) — Sujin (a Korean name)
지민 (Jimin) — Jimin (a Korean name)
잘 잤어? (jal jasseo?) — Did you sleep well?
선생님 (seonsaengnim) — Teacher (respectful title)
안녕하세요 (annyeonghaseyo) — Hello / Good morning (polite)
좋은 아침이에요 (joeun achim-ieyo) — Good morning (literally “It’s a good morning”)
좋은 (joeun) — good / nice
아침 (achim) — morning
💡Tips:
“안녕” is used between friends, while “안녕하세요” is polite and used for teachers or older people.
“잘 잤어?” is a natural morning greeting, like “Did you sleep well?”
“좋은 아침이에요” is a polite way to say “Good morning.”
2. Skit Breakdown
Let’s go through the skit line by line.
Jimin: 안녕, 수진! (Annyeong, Sujin!)
→ Hi, Sujin!
Sujin: 안녕, 지민! 잘 잤어? (Annyeong, Jimin! Jal jasseo?)
→ Hi, Jimin! Did you sleep well?

3. More Ways to Say Hello in Korean!
안녕하세요 (Annyeonghaseyo) — Hello (polite)
안녕히 가세요 / 안녕히 계세요 (Annyeonghi gaseyo / Annyeonghi gyeseyo) — Goodbye (to someone leaving / staying)
만나서 반가워요 (Mannaseo bangawoyo) — Nice to meet you
안녕하십니까? (Annyeonghasimnikka?) — Hello (very formal; often used in business or on the news)
처음 뵙겠습니다 (Cheoeum boepgetseumnida) — Nice to meet you for the first time (formal)
잘 부탁합니다 (Jal butakhamnida) — I look forward to working with you / Please take care of me (formal and polite)
💡Tips:
“안녕하십니까?” is a very formal greeting used in business or interviews.
“처음 뵙겠습니다” and “잘 부탁합니다” are often used together when meeting someone for the first time.
4. Time-Based Greetings
Next, let’s learn greetings for different times of the day.
좋은 아침이에요 (Joeun achim-ieyo) — Good morning (polite)
좋은 하루 되세요 (Joeun haru doeseyo) — Have a nice day / Have a good day
잘 자요 (Jal jayo) — Good night (polite but friendly)
💡Tips:
If you can’t remember all of them yet, don’t worry — beginners can just use “안녕하세요” for almost any situation!
